About the Designer
- About the Artist
- Ivey Brassil has studied sculpture, video, photography, time arts, drawing and painting, and just about every media other than fiber and metalsmithing formally. Because of this, she imports the concerns of modernism and minimalism into the small and personal world of the wearable, and draws influence from the inherent beauty in the materials themselves and the action of deep repetition.
- About Ensō
- Ensō are calligraphic circular forms that zen practitioners use as a meditative tool, drawing this form in repetition. Sometimes the circular mark appears open, sometimes fully closed.
In the kind of weaving that I use on metal, co-opted from beadweaving, many (many many!) small circular units comprise the whole. Aha! Satori, maybe someday. I’ll keep doing it either way.
